How do I take care of my Hair?

in News

Many of us are raised with the hands of others in our hair, which gives us the temporary security of knowing that our hair is in good hands but what happens when we get to a point in life where the responsibility is now our own? I remember getting to the point in life where my beauty and upkeep was my own financial responsibility and I quickly learned how much money, time, and effort it took to keep myself up….it had finally dawned on me I had no idea how to take care of my own hair.

Quality products? A hair regimen? Tools? It was all so new to me and I hit the point where it was clear that there was no universal method. I began experimenting with products and tools to figure out what was the best fit for my hair and I began to develop products and specific routines that worked. When looking at products, it is CRUCIAL to look beyond the packaging! Products are more than a great fragrance and pretty bottles….you really have to focus on the ingredients and really ask yourself, “What is this”. I spent many nights on the computer researching ingredients that were in the products I was buying in the store and was not loving what I was seeing, which really prompted me to start my own natural/organic line. A line where I was using quality ingredients to begin working on a hair regimen for others and myself. Hair regimens are not just important for hygienic purposes but also to assure that you are using products and tools that benefit your hair. I have learned based on my own experiences that outside of genetic factors hair health is often a reflection of how healthy or unhealthy our lives are.

Taking care of our hair is just as important as taking care of any other part of our bodies. We need to be sure we are washing and conditioning our hair on a weekly basis and while many of us are active rinsing and/or co-washing is a great option rather than washing daily but is dependent on the type of hair you have. If your hair gets oily quickly, it needs to be washed more often. Straight hair can get oily quickly. Very curly hair is not as oily and can be washed less often. If you have very curly, kinky or thick hair, it might be too dry and look frizzy. It is true that, people often do not have a good hair, which can be seen in the numerous products we have stashed under our sinks and in our bathroom cupboards.

In looking at good haircare basics, it is simple: you must drink plenty of water, reduce stress, limit the amount of heat you put on your hair, wash your hair regularly using products that are high quality, and build a network that can help!
